The first Night of Museums in the world took place in Berlin in 1997. Today, it is organized by more than 120 European cities. In Poland, the first to organize it, in 2003, was the National Museum in Poznań. The Copper Museum invited visitors to Legnica’s first Museum Night in 2006.

Here is the detailed program of an event you simply must attend on Saturday, May 16 (5:30–11:00 p.m.). Admission is free.

  • 5:30 p.m. – We begin at the Lapidarium – welcome
  • 5:35 p.m. – Concert by the Brass Band of the Music School Complex in Legnica, conducted by Janusz Trepiak (Lapidarium)
  • 6:00 p.m. – Opening of two silver exhibitions prepared by the Legnica Art Gallery as part of the Silver Festival 2015: 25 for 25. Jewelry of the Time of Freedom. XXV Years of the Association of Goldsmithing Form Creators (main building,  Św. Jana Street)
  • 6:30–10:00 p.m. – Legnica painter Jarosław Jaśnikowski invites visitors on shared journeys through an alternative world and to discover the secrets of his craft (main building, 1 Św. Jana Street)
  • 7:00 p.m. – Artist to Artist. A guided tour of the exhibition: Czesław Dźwigaj. Homage to Requiem Romana Maciejewskiego with Dr Aleksandra Adamska-Osada (Knights’ Academy)
  • 7:30–10:00 p.m. – My Marilyn Monroe – Iwona Rostkowska will talk about and draw her fascination with the pop-culture icon (Knights’ Academy)
  • 8:30 p.m. – being …co-being – a presentation of a fragment of the installation “The Atavistic Need to Create” by Edyta Rola-Marcinowska (castle courtyard)
  • 8:30–11:00 p.m. – Legnica by night from St. Peter’s Tower (tower entry only with a ticket, castle courtyard)
  • 9:00 p.m. – Tour of the exhibition Awaiting the Savior – Franciszek Starowieyski’s Drawing Theater together with the exhibition curator Łucja Wojtasik-Seredyszyn (main building, 1 Św. Jana Street)
  • 9:15 p.m. – Cello duo concert – Katarzyna Trepiak and Jolanta Żukiewicz (main building, 1 Św. Jana Street)
  • 10:00 p.m. – Screening of the film “Czesław Dźwigaj – Yes, I Know!” (25 min., Knights’ Academy)
  • 6:00–10:00 p.m. – City game: Duchess Ludwika’s Ducats (boards available for PLN 6 from the Museum Night information office)
  • 5:00–10:00 p.m. – open-air buffet (Lapidarium).
