On Sunday, April 19, we commemorated the 72nd anniversary of the outbreak of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising. Students from more than 850 schools across Poland commemorated the event by handing out paper flowers in their towns and cities.

Our school also joined the activities commemorating this event. On Friday, we reminded students of the facts concerning the outbreak of the uprising through a historical broadcast, while on Sunday we went out to the residents of Bolesławiec and, by giving them symbolic paper daffodils, invited them to commemorate this important anniversary.

Daffodils symbolize remembrance, respect and hope. They bloom at the same time as the anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising is commemorated. Marek Edelman, one of the uprising’s commanders, received a bouquet of these flowers from an anonymous sender every year. He himself also most often laid these particular flowers at the Ghetto Heroes Monument. This yellow flower became a symbol of collective remembrance.
