Prolonged drought and persistently high temperatures are contributing to an increased risk of forest fires. In June and July, the fire service extinguished 109 fires in Bolesławiec County, including 58 forest fires. The fires caused losses amounting to PLN 384,000. The County Headquarters of the State Fire Service in Bolesławiec is appealing to county residents to comply with the ban on entering forest areas. The ban applies in all forest districts located within Bolesławiec County. People who fail to comply with the ban face severe penalties. The forest areas of individual forest districts are monitored using CCTV systems. In addition, forest service employees patrol the wooded areas from the ground and from the air.

Due to the numerous grass fires in the town and county, firefighters are also appealing for particular caution when using open flames. A stray spark, such as from a discarded cigarette butt, can ignite dry ground cover, which spreads very quickly in drought conditions, threatening people, property and the environment. During the past 24 hours, a fire on Kraszewskiego Street in Bolesławiec burned one hectare of grass. The fire lasted approximately three hours. Three fire service units took part in the firefighting operation. The fire service also reminds people to provide care and supervision for children and young people. Holiday statistics show that young people are often responsible for causing fires.
