From the beginning of the week through Wednesday inclusive, we invite all film lovers to our silver screen. At the PozaNova cinema, we are showing the film “The Immigrant,” directed by James Gray. This high-budget production, nominated for the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival, stars Marion Cotillard, Joaquin Phoenix and Jeremy Renner in the leading roles. The film tells the story of a love triangle between a Polish woman and two Americans; it is set in the United States during Prohibition. Spicy! And tickets at our cinema cost only PLN 11 this week. The lights go out at 6:31 p.m..

On Tuesday, the foyer and auditorium beneath the green dome will be filled with content related to AIDS prevention. From 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., we will host an AIDS knowledge competition organised by the District Sanitary and Epidemiological Station in Zgorzelec. Before noon, another film screening will also take place as part of the New Horizons of Film Education project.

And at 4:00 p.m., together with Zgorzelec mayor Rafał Gronicz, we invite all interested city residents to public consultations concerning the Czerwona Woda reservoir and the surrounding areas.

Public consultations with the mayor will also take place on Wednesday, 15 April. These Wednesday consultations will concern the second stage of MDK’s modernisation, the development of the surrounding areas and the revitalisation of Błachańca Park. As on Tuesday, they will begin at 4:00 p.m..

On Wednesday, another NHEF screening will also take place; this time, at 1:00 p.m., we will invite pupils from the Tęcza bilingual school to the cinema.

Two hours before noon (10:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m.) will be taken up on Wednesday by the award ceremony for participants in the family Easter Competition. On Thursday, we will be at the Cemetery of Soldiers of the Second Army of the Polish Army, where at 12:00 p.m. the 70th anniversary of the Crossing of the Lusatian Neisse will be commemorated—a major military operation from the Second World War that undoubtedly contributed to Zgorzelec being... Zgorzelec.

We will also commemorate the 70th anniversary of this event in a special way on Saturday. On that day, we invite everyone to the square in front of MDK, where it will be possible to watch a historical reenactment entitled “Treasures of the Hall of Memory.” The performance will depict a skirmish between soldiers of the Second Army of the Polish Army and a Wehrmacht unit attempting to remove the museum treasures collected in the building of the Upper Lusatian Hall of Glory (formerly MDK). We invite everyone interested in history, and everyone interested in our city’s past. The reenactment will form part of the celebrations marking Zgorzelec’s 70th anniversary. The first shots will be fired at approximately 1:30 p.m..

Also on Saturday, but before noon, a meeting of the members of the “Szklana wata” allotment gardens will take place at our MDK. It starts at 10:00 a.m.

And finally, an invitation for Sunday—an unusual one, because it is a premiere! On Sunday, the Children’s Fairy-Tale Theatre operating at our cultural centre will present its premiere performance of the season. The new production is entitled “The Box” and will begin at 6:00 p.m.. Admission to the premiere is by invitation only, due to the limited number of seats in the audience. This is not a problem, however: our young artists will perform “The Box” on our stage several more times, and anyone who wants to see the performance will certainly have the opportunity.

We invite you to MDK Zgorzelec.
