At the end of March this year, a resident of Lubin came to the Lubin police headquarters. The man reported that his car had been stolen and provided the circumstances in which it had allegedly gone missing.
The case was taken up by officers from the criminal division of the KPP. The officers carefully analyzed all the facts provided by the reporting party. The analysis clearly showed that the theft report might be fictitious.
The officers determined that the 46-year-old resident of Lubin had taken his car to a repair shop. There, he learned that repairing the faults would cost several thousand złoty. He then remembered that the car was insured and... decided to fake its theft. A 28-year-old friend came to his aid. After the men arranged for the car to disappear, its owner reported to the police that it had been stolen from him.
The car is still damaged, but there will be no insurance payout, and the two residents of Lubin face up to 5 years in prison for attempting to defraud the insurer.
