It takes place every last Saturday of March and has been held since 2007. Last year, a record number of more than 7,000 cities from 162 countries around the world took part in Earth Hour. In Poland alone, 73 cities participated.

The aim of the initiative is to express support for climate protection on Earth by encouraging as many people as possible to turn off lights and electrical devices in their homes, offices and public buildings for one hour. The goal is to motivate people to adopt environmentally friendly attitudes and care for the health of our planet.

WWF branches around the world, in addition to providing general environmental education, also engage people in solving specific ecological problems. Earth Hour 2015 in Poland will be dedicated to helping a critically endangered species: the porpoise, the Baltic cousin of the dolphin.

We encourage the residents of Legnica, as well as administrators of public buildings, to turn off the lighting on Saturday, 28 March from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.. During this time, for example, the illumination of the Piast Castle towers and the exterior lighting of the sports and entertainment hall on Lotnicza Street will be switched off.
