– We support the District Police Headquarters in carrying out its duties – said Bolesławiec Mayor Piotr Roman during the March City Council session. – This primarily concerns the possibility of moving the headquarters to buildings currently located on the grounds of the Regional Hospital for the Nervously and Mentally Ill. This is an opportunity that may not arise again. It is an excellent location with well-renovated buildings, but they need to be adapted to the police’s needs.
– Discussions are under way – the mayor continued. – Our task – I say “our” because this concerns all the municipalities of Bolesławiec County and the County itself – is to shoulder the task of preparing the documentation.
The documentation is expected to cost approximately PLN 200,000. As Piotr Roman said, the City of Bolesławiec, as the largest municipality in the county, has declared the largest contribution – PLN 100,000; the remaining amount is to be provided by the other local governments. – We hope that the police will move to considerably better conditions – the mayor added.
Insp. Henryk Stefanko, the Bolesławiec district police chief, also spoke: – One of the councillors visited us recently and said that our headquarters is not even late Gierek-era, but early Gierek-era.
The head of the Bolesławiec police also said that the headquarters is “unfortunately located,” cannot be expanded, and lacks parking spaces, both for visitors and for the officers themselves.
– On top of all this came another problem: by decision of the state sanitary inspector, the Detention Room for Detainees was closed [pisaliśmy o tym w materiale Bolesławiecka policja nie ma własnego aresztu – przyp. „ii”] – Insp. Stefanko said. He added: – Only filmmakers are delighted with these rooms. Historical films could be shot there; all you need to do is unscrew the light bulbs and put up candlesticks. These rooms could serve as tsarist dungeons. Their closure was unavoidable, and investing in them would have been unprofitable.
It is not yet known when our police officers could move to the new headquarters. We will return to the subject.
Is the KPP Bolesławiec headquarters on Tysiąclecia Avenue a good idea? We invite you to join the discussion.
