The arrest took place on March 20 at around 8:14 p.m. in one of the towns near Jelenia Góra. Officers stopped a BMW for a roadside check; it was being driven by a 26-year-old man. His 51-year-old father was the passenger. Both men were visibly nervous.

Not without reason. As it turned out, the entire car was loaded with cigarettes without Polish excise stamps. The illegal tobacco products were hidden under the rear seat and in the trunk.

In total, the officers seized more than 2,500 packs. Had they reached the market, the state treasury could have lost approximately PLN 25,000.

Both detainees face up to three years in prison.
