The 15-year-old from Legnica was among the leaders from the very beginning and deservedly took a place on the podium, scoring 6.5 points. With this excellent result, she earned her place in the national team and a spot representing Poland at the European Girls’ Junior Championship, which will be held in Croatia.

This is the greatest success of Ani, who has been training for nine years under the guidance of Piotr Kowalak, and further proof that Legnica is not short of chess talent. Ani’s clubmate Gabriela Maciak also performed very well, scoring 4.5 points and finishing 17th.

In a few years, Legnica could see an abundance of chess talent if the unique, original project introduced in the city last year to teach chess to pupils in the early grades of primary school—“Legniczanie dają mata”—continues to enjoy the same high level of popularity among children and parents as it does now.
