An unusual opening was organized by Katarzyna Zarówny in the “Mała Biała” gallery for Bolesławiec artist Czesław Matyjewicz, who has been associated with BOK-MCC for years and is once again running his studio at the center. The opening featured a theater group from Orzeł with a happening centered around carrots, as well as carrot cake, juice and whole carrots handed out by a charming, almost Easter-like bunny. The exhibition’s title, “Kitchen Appliances,” came from the fact that the artist created the works at home and displayed them... in the kitchen.
During the opening, Ewa Lijewska-Małachowska, director of BOK-MCC, invited the artist to press his hands into clay. A slab fired from this clay will be installed in front of the center and will join the gallery of renowned Bolesławiec ceramic artists.
Czesław Majewicz made no secret of his emotion. He called his exhibition a little joke and had not expected such a grand celebration. Everyone present at the opening spent a long time admiring more than a hundred ideas for showing the human face in an unusual way. Matyjewicz’s masks, fired at low temperatures (which gave them their unusual brick color), depict various versions of faces: a sundial man, a roof man, a fish man, a penis man, a globe man, an owl man and many others.
The artist’s daughters suggested the inspiration for some of the masks. For them, their father made a pilot-astronaut mask, a fish man, a tree man and an insect man (a moth and a beetle).
The new face of the gallery at BOK-MCC is taking shape, and Katarzyna Zarówny announces another good exhibition in two weeks, this time a presentation of performance works. On Friday, March 27, at 6:00 p.m., the opening of “Is This Art?” by Martyna Woźnica, a Bolesławiec artist and graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław, will be held. During Friday’s opening, an organized group of young people together with the visiting guests will take part in a performance.
