Old boards that, if only they could speak, would tell the story of several generations of residents whom they watched from walls, windows and doors. Some see in them only a piece of old wood, dust-covered and of little value. Others sense the history and power contained within them. The latter do not want their lives to end here and now. Thanks to Beata Makutynowicz, whose exhibition opening AGI invites you to, these dead pieces of wood come alive—or rather, they come to life themselves: they take on angelic shapes, smile at us or gaze at us somewhat thoughtfully; they gain color and live anew, observing the lives of successive generations.

Beata Makutynowicz comes from the Masurian town of Pasym. Using old, patinated boards and metal elements, she creates wooden compositions: Karkonosze Old-Winged Angels, “woodlings” and “karkoniki”; on stone slate and old boards, she paints Karkonosze landscapes. She also creates still lifes, especially arrangements featuring flowers and plant elements.

She began her artistic education at the State Secondary School of Fine Arts in Cieplice, graduating in 1991. In the meantime, she moved to Karpacz, where she continues to live and work.

She continues her artistic path through the Nowy Młyn Association from Szklarska Poręba, the “Partnerstwo Ducha Gór” Association and the Π-Art Artistic Group from Piechowice.

She has exhibited her works in Jelenia Góra, Karpacz, Szklarska Poręba, Stara Kamienica, Jawor, Lubin, Złotoryja and Gazzada Schianno in Italy.

The exhibition will be on display until April 10.
