The incident took place on 31 December 2014, in the afternoon, when the victims Kacper Ś. and Kacper D. got off the bus they had taken from Jelenia Góra. The suspects also got off a coach at the same bus stop. When Kacper Ś. took out his mobile phone to call an acquaintance, he was unexpectedly attacked from behind and struck on the head by Mateusz G., who snatched the phone from his hand. At that time, the other perpetrator grabbed the victim by the arms, while Mateusz G. continued striking Kacper Ś. on the head. When the victim managed to break free from the attackers, he and Kacper D. notified the police of the attack.
They then went in the direction of the suspects, asking them to return the stolen phone. The attackers not only refused to return Kacper Ś.’s property, but began hitting him on the head again. They also demanded that the victims hand over a bottle of wine (0.7 litre, worth PLN 40) that they had with them.
At that point, police officers arrived at the scene and arrested both perpetrators. At the prosecutor’s request, the District Court in Jelenia Góra ordered pre-trial detention for G. and Radosław J..
Both suspects had previously been convicted, while Mateusz G. committed the alleged offence as a repeat offender.
They face between 2 and 12 years in prison.
