At the beginning of June, a meeting of Polish and German young people took place in Zittau. Twenty students from Gimnazjum Samorządowe nr 2 in Bolesławiec and 30 students from Mittelschule an der Weinau in Zittau participated in the German-Polish educational project “Fliessgewesser – flowing waters.” The young people studied the Nysa Łużycka River in terms of its structure and biological and chemical condition. The Polish and German participants conducted chemical experiments together, identified microorganisms caught in the river, and visited a wastewater treatment plant in Zittau. After the classes, the young people took part in a rafting trip on the Nysa.
The project was co-financed by the Interreg III A fund and took place thanks to the efforts of the Saxon Foundation for Nature and the Environment. On the Polish side, the project was organized by the South-Western Forum of Local Government “Pogranicze” from Lubań. The Polish group was supervised by teachers from Gimnazjum Samorządowe nr 2: Iwona Masłowska and Grażyna Czyżycka. Miejskie Centrum Edukacji Ekologicznej in Bolesławiec also participated in the project; Polish students prepared there to carry out the practical part of the project.
