On Sunday, 1 March, Mayor of Nowogrodziec Robert Relich and representatives of the Municipal and Commune Circle of the Association of Combatants of the Republic of Poland and Former Political Prisoners in Nowogrodziec: Józef Komar, Eugeniusz Braszka and Zofia Bokszańska laid flowers at the Defenders of the Homeland monument in Nowogrodziec, paying tribute to the fallen and murdered members of the independence underground who opposed the Sovietization of the country.

Young people were also among those attending the ceremony. Young people are the future of our country, which is why it is so important that the memory of national heroes and the spirit of Polish identity survive and continue to be passed on to subsequent generations by eyewitnesses of those events.

– We pay tribute to the Cursed Soldiers: heroes of the anti-communist underground who fought for Poland’s freedom and independence. Although they fought the occupier for a free Poland, the people’s authorities branded them enemies of the state. They were persecuted and sentenced to lengthy prison terms. Remembering them is the moral duty of Poles – said Mayor of Nowogrodziec Robert Relich.
