As part of the celebrations of the Year of the Polish Language, the Municipal Public Library in Bolesławiec hosted the 2006 Spelling Champion Tournament. Five-person teams representing all primary schools in the city took part in the tournament. Marta Borucińska, a fifth-grade student from class V d at Primary School No. 4 in Bolesławiec, won the 2006 Spelling Champion title in the primary-school category. Filip Pająk, a fifth-grade student at Primary School No. 1, came second. Magdalena Kubat, a sixth-grade student at Primary School No. 4, came third.
Awards were also given to students who made no spelling mistakes but failed to avoid punctuation errors. They included: Adrianna Dereszyńska (Primary School No. 5), Katarzyna Skorupska (Primary School No. 3), and Izabela Szulkowska (Primary School No. 5). The author of the tournament dictation text, titled "Healthy and Hygienic," was Helena Szymula, principal of Gimnazjum No. 1.
