On Sunday, February 22, the Artistic Council of Legnica Cantat 46 met to select the best choirs from applications submitted from across the country. – It is worth noting that the standard of the choirs that submitted applications was high – says Prof. Stanisław Krawczyński, head of the Artistic Council.
Legnica will also have its own representative in the tournament, as the Madrygał choir of the Legnica Cultural Centre has qualified. – We will do our best to represent Legnica as beautifully as possible – Madrygał’s artists told us after the meeting.
Interestingly, the Artistic Council of Legnica Cantat wants to change the tournament regulations. – Starting with next year’s competition, each choir will be required to perform at least one work by a Polish composer – Prof. Krawczyński announced. – The aim is for the tournament to promote Polish works, because at present choirs most often choose foreign-language songs for the competition.
After listening to recordings from 17 ensembles, 11 were selected for the competition. They are:
- “441 Hz” Chamber Choir from Gdańsk, conductor Anna Wilczewska
- La Musica Choir of Secondary School No. 16 named after Fryderyk Chopin in Lublin, conductor Zdzisław Ohar
