Free-roaming cats should be brought to the clinic by their community carers, known as feeders. Each such person is asked to sign a declaration confirming that they care for a homeless animal. The city has allocated PLN 7,000 from its budget to conduct the campaign.
It is worth recalling that, as part of similar campaigns, more than 180 cats and 24 dogs were sterilized in 2013. The year before, 218 four-legged animals underwent sterilization, while in 2014 the figure was 152.
Between 2012 and 2014, a total of 1,574 animals stayed at the Legnica shelter for homeless animals. The number of residents decreased significantly each year. During the same period, 1,488 animals were adopted by Legnica residents. This is a very good result, demonstrating the sensitivity of the city's residents. Over the past three years, the Municipal Police's specialist patrol has assisted 123 animals that were involved in accidents. They also received veterinary care.
