At approximately 12:00 on February 19, a serious accident occurred on provincial road No. 296, on the Węgliniec–Czerwona Woda section. For reasons not yet established, a passenger car and a truck with a semi-trailer tanker collided head-on on a straight section of the road.
As a result of the collision, the passenger car was severely damaged and “thrown” into a roadside ditch. Two people were travelling in the passenger car. The passenger was able to leave the vehicle unaided, while the driver was trapped inside.
The first to arrive at the scene were volunteer firefighters from OSP Czerwona Woda, followed shortly afterwards by an ambulance. Using specialist hydraulic equipment, including cutters, spreaders and a column spreader, the firefighters quickly extricated the injured driver from the vehicle and handed him over to the emergency medical team.
The injured people—the driver and passenger—were taken to the hospital emergency department in Zgorzelec. Firefighters from OSP Węgliniec, Ruszów and JRG PSP in Zgorzelec, as well as the police, also took part in the rescue operation.
