The incident took place on 12 February, at around 11:00, in Jelenia Góra. A woman—allegedly calling on behalf of the victim’s daughter-in-law—telephoned him and asked to borrow PLN 20,000. She was supposedly going to pay it as bail because, as she told the 82-year-old man, his relative by marriage had caused an accident.
The 82-year-old man handed several thousand złoty to the fraudster. He realized that he had fallen victim to a crime only several hours later.
