Security guards at one of Legnica’s supermarkets notified police that they had detained a 30-year-old resident of Wrocław who wanted to pay for goods with vouchers. The cashier became suspicious of them.

The man was handed over to officers. They confirmed that the vouchers with which the Wrocław resident wanted to pay for groceries and household appliances (worth PLN 450) were counterfeit.

Officers checked other large stores in Legnica. It turned out that the man had managed to “shop” at three of them. Counterfeit vouchers worth a total of PLN 1,670 were secured there. What is more, the detainee had... a dozen or so counterfeit PLN 100 vouchers on him.

The suspect was taken to police custody. He faces up to eight years in prison.
