The incident took place on February 2, at approximately 7:45 a.m., on 1 Maja Street in Szklarska Poręba. The 17-year-old resident of one of the educational and care centres in Opole Voivodeship asked a woman walking along the street what time it was. This was only a pretext, however, as he then knocked her to the ground, snatched her handbag and fled.
His haul included glasses, a wallet, keys and other small items. The owner estimated her losses at PLN 134.
The woman notified the police. Officers from Szklarska Poręba arrested the suspect after a brief pursuit and recovered all the stolen property.
The teenager was taken into police custody. He could face a sentence of up to 12 years in prison.
