For years, at the beginning of the new year, the mayor of Legnica has invited representatives of various communities, companies, associations and organizations cooperating with the local government for the benefit of the city and its residents to a formal concert. It is a way of thanking them for their involvement in Legnica’s social life.
– By organizing this concert, I would like to thank you for your great commitment and work – said Mayor Tadeusz Krzakowski. – Thank you for changing Legnica together; it is our shared responsibility.
The mayor also extended his best New Year’s wishes to everyone.
Before the authors of the books nominated for the title were invited onto the stage, everyone present watched a brilliant impression—a kind of chronicle of the most interesting and colorful events in Legnica in 2014. The highly appealing, dynamically edited film was very well received by the concert guests.
For the title of “Legnica Book of the Year 2014,” the chapter nominated five publications. The winner was “The Nobility in Silesia: The Middle Ages and the Modern Era,” edited by Prof. Jan Harasimowicz.
Professor Harasimowicz admitted that he had worked very hard on its creation. – I sincerely recommend this book because it is a treasure trove of knowledge – the professor said. – And it is the first truly Polish-German book. It can be used to learn our neighbors’ language at a very high level. All the texts are in two languages—Polish and German. The now-famous monumental exhibition about the nobility in Silesia, presented at the Copper Museum last year, will continue to live on in this catalog.
The professor recalled that he had once written a book about our city, published in 1991: – Perhaps someday, if I have the strength, I will write another book about Legnica, because I love this city.
The New Year’s gala concluded with a concert by the band VOX. We heard their greatest hits: “Bananowy song,” “O, Magdaleno,” and “Szczęśliwej drogi, już czas,” which the audience greatly enjoyed. Jerzy Słota, one of the leaders of this very popular group, is associated with Legnica. – I have lived here for two years – the vocalist said. – I admire how wonderfully this city is changing.
