Jadwiga Janina Sarzyńska, a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Poznań, Faculty of Artistic Education, works in sculpture, painting and photography. At the Format Gallery, she presents her watercolours and photographs. The entire series is titled “Conversations of Grass.”
Her works are precise, with a conscious, assured line. Their form results from the artist’s search, focused in her work on the smallest moments of life, seconds of existence and overlooked details that make up the entirety of the world she observes.
In her drawings, she is close to the Japanese poetic form of haiku. In watercolour, she records short sentences-ideas graphically, enlarging and precisely composing fragments and giving them a universal resonance in a concise form.
Under the microscope of her art, she examines life in order to move closer to its essence. In her photographs and watercolours, small details begin to exist as separate wholes. “Conversations of Grass” consists of dialogues that never took place—they were only glances, sighs and imperceptible tensions.
Janina Jadwiga Sarzyńska virtuously reveals in her works what most often escapes us as our lives hastily flow by. It is worth stepping into the Format Gallery for a moment and giving attention to the smallest, yet at the same time most essential and mysterious thing— the art of insightful observation of the world flowing along with us.
The watercolour exhibition at the Format Gallery of the Municipal Public Library can be viewed from 5 to 19 May.
