The incident occurred on January 27 in Lubin. The approximately 30-year-old fraudster tried five times to extort money by pretending to be someone’s granddaughter. At one point, she said that she had been in an accident and was now at the police station. She also claimed that she needed money for bail. Another time, she lied that she had hit a person. She needed money to pay for treatment.
First, the fraudster asked for... PLN 30,000 and PLN 25,000. On her third attempt, she lowered her demands, asking for “only” all the savings allegedly possessed by the grandmother.
None of the first four women contacted by the fraudster was fooled. Unfortunately, the fifth elderly woman gave the suspect as much as PLN 8,000. Interestingly, the perpetrator knew the real granddaughter’s name and lied that she was asking for help on the latter’s behalf. According to the fraudster, the granddaughter had hit a woman and immediately needed money.
The woman who came to the victim to collect the savings was approximately 30 years old. She was slim, had short brown hair and was wearing a knee-length brown jacket.
Anyone who may help establish the fraudster’s identity is asked to contact KPP Lubin (3 Traugutta Street; telephone number 997).
