We return to the case. Grzegorz D. was charged with murder and, at the prosecutor’s request, has been temporarily detained. The victim’s body was found by two neighbors. It was quickly established that the murdered man had been living for about three years with a 41-year-old homeless man, also from Ścinawa.
Both men abused alcohol, which often led to arguments and physical fights between them. During one of them, D. grabbed a knife and stabbed the victim twice in the chest. One of the blows punctured his lung, causing massive internal and external bleeding, which led to the victim’s death shortly afterward.
Grzegorz D., terrified by what he had done, hid his friend’s body in a sofa, covering it with garbage bags. After the murder, he reportedly returned to the apartment only for the night. He was usually drunk. He told acquaintances that the victim had gone to visit his brother.
D. was charged with murder. He confessed to committing the crime and gave extensive explanations. He also took part in a crime-scene reconstruction, explaining how the crime had occurred. He claimed that the murder had taken place just before New Year’s Eve, which he spent alone. He also explained that the argument between him and the victim had broken out because the suspect had not brought alcohol home. The victim had allegedly beaten him with a wooden cane, which he usually used for support because of his disability. In the heat of the argument, D. grabbed a knife and stabbed the 62-year-old man. However, he said he had not intended to kill him.
An important issue in the case will be determining the exact date on which the crime was committed—and whether it actually took place before New Year’s Eve, as the suspect claims. The time of death will be established by a forensic medical expert.
D. faces life imprisonment.
