The New Year’s Meeting of the Mayor of Jelenia Góra was held at the Cyprian Kamil Norwid Theatre Marcin Zawiła. The mayor summed up the previous year. “It was the 907th year in the history of Jelenia Góra,” he said. “I counted it so that we would be aware that everything does not begin on the day of our birth; we are part of a certain chain.”
He added: “What was the past year like? It was not bad. The city’s revenues are being collected reasonably well after a period of stagnation. It is optimistic that higher personal income tax revenues came in, we sold several properties, there are entrepreneurs willing to invest, and unemployment is stabilizing. All this is a good starting point for the city’s operations in 2015. We are aware that the coming year will be difficult for local governments. This is because European funds will be launched. That is precisely why work is needed to prepare us for this period: projects and technical documentation for tasks. And it is essential to keep an eye on the budget, not to incur excessively high expenditures, and to have money for our own contribution to these projects.”
Later in the ceremony, the mayor honored four companies from Jelenia Góra and one non-governmental organization: Niepubliczny Zakład Opieki Zdrowotnej „Promed”, Jelenia Plast, Wydawnictwo Ad Rem Reginy Chrześcijańskiej, Hotelsystems.pl, as well as the Regional Branch of the Polish Association of Pensioners, Renters and the Disabled in Jelenia Góra.
During the ceremony, member of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland Zofia Czernow presented honorary badges bearing the title “Distinguished for Polish Culture” to Beata Kornicka-Konecka, Marek Lercher, Marek Liksztet, Andrzej Boj-Wojtowicz, Janusz Lipiński, Dariusz Miliński, Piotr Konieczyński and Grażyna Mieczkowska.
There were also artistic performances. Jacek Szreniawa sang “Korowód” from Marek Grechuta’s repertoire and “Dziwny jest ten świat” by Czesław Niemen, while Elwira Kozak and Waldemar Motyka performed together the song “Usta Milczą” from Franz Lehár’s operetta “The Merry Widow”. The meeting was hosted by Dariusz Maląg.
