On Saturday, 17 January, the Bolesławieckie Towarzystwo Siatkarskie Elektros Bolesławiec team faced MKS Rosiek Syców, the side sitting second in the Group A Third League table, on their home court. The match was unusually played in the hall of the Zespół Szkół Ogólnokształcących i Zawodowych (the same venue where league matches were held last season).
Last season, the ZSOiZ hall proved lucky for our volleyball players. They defeated Rosiek Syców 3:1 then. This time, however, after a highly emotional contest, the Bolesławiec team lost 2:3 to the Syców side (22:25, 23:25, 25:22, 25:14, 15:10).
“This match had two faces. We played well in the first two sets, but the endings did not go our way,” comments Krzysztof Mosiądz, coach of the Bolesławiec team. “Especially in the first set, when we had a substantial lead but failed to see it through. We could have won that opening set. Besides, we started both first sets several points behind, which made things more difficult for us.
He adds: “In the third and fourth sets, the players woke up. We won both of those sets, mainly thanks to good serving. Unfortunately, the first two sets shaped the entire match, and we lacked luck in the tie-break.
“Our play fluctuated greatly. We had excellent moments, and then suddenly played like cadets, younger players or juniors,” says Tomasz Włoszczyński, captain of the BTS Elektros team. “It is unclear what we are missing to stabilize our form and put the finishing touch to our play. Sometimes we lead late in a set and suddenly lose two points. In the fourth set, we played the kind of volleyball we should play all the time. Our reception and serving worked very well. We played completely relaxed; we had nothing to lose. Perhaps our dominance in the fourth set lulled us a little in the tie-break.
And he declares: “We will fight until the end of the season. We will continue striving to achieve the best results possible.”
