The scouts brought the Bethlehem Light of Peace in a burning lantern, along with Christmas and New Year’s greetings. On behalf of Mayor Tadeusz Krzakowski, they were welcomed by Deputy Mayor Dorota Purgal.

This year’s scouting message is: “Peace is within us!” In a special message, the team recalls the words of Saint John Paul II: “Begin the work of peace within yourselves, so that, filled with peace yourselves, you may bring peace to others.”

The scouts carrying the Bethlehem Light of Peace have already visited, among others, the Bishop of Legnica, Zbigniew Kiernikowski, and will also visit Legnica firefighters and take the lantern to churches, care facilities and their own homes. Through this honorary mission, they are also earning the Bethlehem Fire proficiency badge.

The Bethlehem fire has been present in Poland and Legnica for the 24th time. From the Grotto of the Nativity, Austrian scouts passed it to their colleagues from Slovakia, who then passed it on to Polish scouts.

Dorota Purgal thanked them for the symbolic gift on behalf of the mayor and the residents of Legnica. She wished the young people wonderful Christmas holidays, peace in the world and in their homeland, and a happy New Year.
