The conference was combined with a presentation of an educational and popular-science book about the French composer Olivier Messiaen and the creation of his work “Quartet for the End of Time” in the Stalag VIIIA prisoner-of-war camp. A thematic exhibition was also opened, dedicated to the prisoners of war held at Stalag VIII A during World War II and to camp art.

The construction of the Centre will create opportunities for residents of many nations to meet at the meeting point of three borders, and to benefit from a broad cultural programme and arts education. Educators, artists, children and young people, as well as seniors from various European countries, will participate in activities organised at the Centre. The project will also contribute to improving the quality of presentations of O. Messiaen’s achievements, collections commemorating the operation of Stalag VIII A, the organisation of meetings of composers from across Europe, and concerts featuring world-class musicians.
