Recently, vandals cut out the LED lights from the lotus-flower-shaped illumination installed at the Fountain in Powstańców Wielkopolskich Square. “This is an incomprehensible act of vandalism,” says Ludmiła Kubicka-Sopel, director of the Municipal Infrastructure Department of the Legnica City Office. “The cut-out lights are of no use. And repairing the illumination costs money. Unfortunately, this is not the only attack on the illuminations.
Most often, vandals try to destroy the ‘ball of happiness’ located on Najświętszej Marii Panny Street. They try to climb onto it or knock it over, and they cut the cables. Several thoughtless vandals have been arrested by the police. Men who were ripping out the electrical wires in this ball were caught. A Legnica resident who was climbing onto the installation by the Neptune fountain was also arrested.
For vandalism, if the losses are substantial, one can end up behind bars for as many as five years.
