On Friday, 5 December 2014, an awards ceremony was held for the competition for the Mayor of Bolesławiec’s prize for the best master’s or doctoral thesis on the history and present-day life of Bolesławiec, defended in the 2012/2013 and 2013/2014 academic years at all public and private universities in Poland and abroad.

The jury, comprising Prof. Grzegorz Strauchold, PhD hab. (University of Wrocław), Prof. Robert Masztalski, PhD hab., Eng. (Wrocław University of Science and Technology), Prof. Waldemar Tyc, PhD hab. (Wrocław University of Economics), and Jerzy Zieliński, City Secretary, and Jacek Dudyński, head of the Cultural Integration Centre, decided to award three main prizes. The first prize was awarded to Bartosz Woźniewski for his master’s thesis “The Concept for Developing the Dworzec Wschodni Area in Bolesławiec,” written at the Faculty of Geographical and Geological Sciences of Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań under the supervision of Łukasz Mikuła, PhD. He received PLN 3,000. By decision of the jury, excerpts from the thesis will also be published in the 2014 Bolesławiec Yearbook. Second place in the competition (PLN 2,000) went to Agnieszka Szulc-Jednoróg for her master’s thesis “A Monograph of Primary School No. 8 in Bolesławiec (1964–1991),” written at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities of the State Higher Vocational School in Legnica under the supervision of Kazimiera Jaworska, PhD hab. The third prize (PLN 1,000) was awarded to Aleksandra Kozioł for the thesis “Hotel and Development of the Area at Pl. Ks. J. Popiełuszki in Bolesławiec,” written at the Faculty of Architecture of Wrocław University of Science and Technology under the supervision of Tomasz Myczkowski, PhD, Eng., architect. The supervisors of the winning theses also received cash prizes of PLN 1,000.

This was already the eighth edition of the competition for the Mayor of Bolesławiec’s prize for the best master’s or doctoral thesis on the history and present-day life of Bolesławiec. In total, 41 theses were submitted to the competition between 2007 and 2014. This year, five theses were submitted.
