During the author’s evening presenting the therapeutic fairy tale Grażyny Hanaf “Garbuska,” the children took part in a mini-competition to draw a portrait of the main character, Matylda.

Anna Chaberek was delighted to look at the children’s work and noted with satisfaction that the children had been inspired by the fairy tale’s cover, while the young artists adapted it according to their own imagination.

The drawings featured an owl, a suitcase, a tree and the girl’s hunchback shown in profile. “I think it is easiest to show it clearly in profile,” Anna Chaberek said, impressed by the children’s creativity. “All the works are warm, sunny and light, with a wide selection of colors, which shows a positive reception of the fairy tale. Apparently, the more colors a child uses when painting a chosen character or object, the more they value it,” the illustrator added.

All the works were wonderful, but two particularly captivated Anna. The first was the work of Ali Witek, with lofty, dreamy butterflies; the second was the work of Milenki Gudzowskiej, very light and portraying a child’s carefree spirit.

“The hunchback girl’s wonderful six fingers and that playful Biszkopt, lying on his back in Milenka’s drawing, are delightful. The dog’s pose is excellent—I couldn’t have depicted him better myself,” Anna said. “The bees, butterflies, little owl and hedgehog in the drawings also enchanted me. As you can see, both the children and Matylda have a good rapport with animals. Although many of the lines are random, all the works fit together wonderfully as a whole. I can imagine the children’s smiles while they were creating their work. Bravo,” the artist praised.

Grażyna Hanaf is very grateful for the children’s beautiful works. We are pleased to present them on Istotne.pl. The fairy tale can be purchased in Bolesławiec at the BOK-MCC Ceramic Store (Piłsudskiego Square) and at the Agora bookshop (Market Square). It is also available in the online store.
