For the inauguration of the holiday lighting, held on St Nicholas Day in the Market Square, residents came with their entire families. It was another city event that made a great impression on those attending. This time, they admired the fairy-tale holiday illuminations.

The mayor Tadeusz Krzakowski thanked residents for taking part in the event. “We are all participating in something special together. We are giving in to an extraordinary holiday atmosphere, full of joy and warm feelings,” he said.

After the Christmas tree was “switched on” in the Market Square, a large procession walked along Najświętszej Marii Panny Street to Galeria Piastów, where holiday musical attractions and more were waiting. Along the way, people admired unusual decorations that lit up, giving this beautiful little street a unique character. Legnica residents took souvenir photos of the illuminations en masse. It continued until late at night.

Let us recall: this year, the Market Square is decorated with a ten-metre tree in a modern style, and crowns have been hung on all the streetlamps. Neptune’s Fountain has a luminous decoration. The streetlamps on Złotoryjska Street and Cathedral Square are adorned with Viennese chandeliers. Najświętszej Marii Panny Street features lotus-flower prototypes designed and made especially for Legnica. The fountain in Powstańców Wielkopolskich Square has the same symbolism. Nearby, walkers are greeted by a finely dressed and dignified lady who came to visit us, named the luminous Grace. This is also new this year. After the season, Grace will return to Wilanów. A large peacock with a spread, luminous tail has been placed in the city centre. Walking along Najświętszej Marii Panny Street towards the Market Square, one passes through the interior of a huge “happiness bauble”. Being inside the bauble is supposed to guarantee health, prosperity and love for the coming year. It is one of the most popular elements of the city illumination among Legnica residents.
