It was therefore necessary to increase the number of after-school club rooms. In accordance with the amended Article 67 of the Education Act and §7 of the regulation on framework statutes for preschools and schools, schools organise after-school clubs for Legnica pupils who have to remain at school longer because of their parents’ working hours, school transport arrangements or other circumstances requiring care. They operate in all primary schools.

To fully meet demand, school principals adapted additional rooms for use as after-school clubs. In the current school year, 34 such rooms were organised (compared with 23 last year), with designated areas for learning, relaxation and play. The clubs are equipped with appropriate furniture and teaching aids, including basic materials and educational games, audiovisual equipment, small sports equipment and computers. The furnishings enable pupils to rest and calm down. In addition, pupils can use playgrounds.

In the 2014/15 school year, an average of 1,765 children attended the clubs each day. The vast majority were pupils in grades I–III and children in preschool classes. The clubs’ hours vary and have been adapted to the needs of working parents. They most often open between 7:00 and 7:30 a.m. and close between 4:00 and 4:30 p.m. Because of the large number of children attending the clubs, staffing levels there have been increased.

Primary school pupils in our city have also been provided with the opportunity to eat a hot, healthy meal. In the 2014/15 school year, meals were provided to 1,963 pupils on average each day, including 1,310 pupils from grades 0–III. The greatest number of lunches are served at Primary School No. 7—310, including 191 for the youngest pupils—and at Primary School No. 9—309 lunches, including 208 for the youngest pupils. This school year, meals are prepared by 35 cooks and kitchen assistants, supported by 8 food service managers.
