This positive trend is primarily the result of the commitment of physical education teachers and school principals to a variety of activities encouraging students to participate in physical education classes. The implementation of “good practices” in many schools has also produced the expected results.

The activities undertaken are intended to prevent excessive and unjustified exemptions from physical education classes. This is especially important because almost all schools in our city have good, modern sports facilities. In support of the “Stop exemptions from PE” campaign of the Ministry of Sport and Tourism and the Ministry of Education, Legnica is implementing the following programs: “I Can Swim,” “Multisport,” and “Little Champion.”

  1. Universal swimming instruction “I Can Swim”. As part of this program, 237 students from four more primary schools have been learning and improving their swimming skills since September. The program is financed by the Legnica Municipality and the Ministry of Sport and Tourism. It supplements the swimming instruction and improvement program for students of Legnica schools, which has been run in Legnica for many years at three indoor swimming pools for 10 months of the school year.
The universal swimming instruction project offers additional sports activities for students who want to engage in physical activity outside compulsory physical education classes as well. The project is aimed at all children—third-grade students at primary schools throughout the country—without selecting students based on whether they are more or less physically fit or athletically gifted.
  2. Multisport – students from grades IV–VI at Primary Schools No. 1 and 2 and Primary School No. 20 (Integrated Schools Complex) participate in the program. Classes are held three times a week for 90 minutes
  3. Little Champion – Primary Schools No. 4 and 6 participate in the program
The program is aimed at children in grades I–III of primary schools, and its idea is to promote an active attitude. The “Little Champion” format is based on six core sports modules, with the possibility of expanding them to related fields.

Since 2008, the Legnica Municipality has also been implementing the municipal Legnica Sports Animator program, allocating approximately PLN 190,000 annually for this purpose. Free classes are held from March to November.
