Budniki is, as Katarzyna Tokarz wrote in the article “Greeting the Sun in Budniki”, published on NaszeSudety.pl, “a mysterious, abandoned settlement located in the Karkonosze Mountains, south of Karpacz and Kowary. Although the last inhabitants moved away in the 1950s, modern enthusiasts of this place continue to cultivate its old traditions. One of them is bidding farewell to and greeting the sun, which does not shine on Budniki for almost the entire winter.”

Budniki enthusiasts invite everyone to the traditional Farewell to the Sun. The gathering will take place on Saturday, 22 November. Participants will meet at 9:00 a.m. by DW Krucze Skały (1 Wilcza Street) in Karpacz.

A group hike to Budniki will follow, with the gathering scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m. in the former center of Budniki (at the fork on Tabaczana Trail, where the yellow trail branches off toward Kowary).

“Please bring provisions in the form of sausage for the campfire. Note: this is not an organized event, and participants attend at their own risk,” the organizers say. They add: “The legendary Wołogór will be at the gathering in Budniki. Surprises await participants in the Farewell to the Sun.”
