The incident occurred on November 5 at the railway station in Węgliniec. At around 1:40 p.m., a fire was noticed inside an SU 46 diesel locomotive, which had brought the IC Wawel train to Węgliniec several minutes earlier.
The firefighters from Węgliniec were the first to begin firefighting and rescue operations. Two units of the State Fire Service Rescue and Firefighting Unit from Zgorzelec, as well as the volunteer fire brigades from Czerwona Woda and Ruszów, also participated in the operation.
Due to the large amount of fuel in the locomotive, there was a risk that the fire would spread. Fortunately, the firefighters quickly and effectively brought the situation under control.
