Ten projects won, one in each area of the city. A total of 8,182 adult residents of Legnica took part in the vote, held from October 1 to 8. An absolute majority chose to vote for the projects online. Only 1,327 people made their choice traditionally, putting their ballot papers into a ballot box.
This year’s turnout was almost 2,000 people higher than in 2013. At that time, 6,198 people voted, meaning an increase of more than 24 percent. This clearly demonstrates the residents’ growing interest in taking decisions about investments carried out in their immediate surroundings.
Each Legnica resident had a pool of five points when choosing a project, and they awarded a total of 40,585 points. Local investments in the Asnyka area received the most votes (6,197 points). The Taninów area came second in this classification (6,051 points), while the Zakaczawie area took third place (5,183 points awarded).
Women were decidedly more active in making decisions concerning LBO projects. A total of 4,752 women voted. Men cast 3,219 valid votes. The largest group of Legnica residents who voted (2,929) was aged 25 to 39. The 40–54 age group came second (1,869 people), while those aged 55 to 64 came third (1,413).
“I am very pleased with such a clear increase in Legnica residents’ interest in participating in LBO procedures. I hope that subsequent editions will confirm this trend,” Mayor Tadeusz Krzakowski said. “Voting via the online system worked perfectly. At the same time, 31 polling stations with ballot boxes were operating. I sincerely thank everyone who worked there. Further stages of this LBO edition lie ahead. Soon we will meet with the leaders of the winning applications. I will then include them in the draft city budget for 2015, which I will submit to the City Council. Next year, tenders await us for the design documentation and implementation of individual LBO tasks. After that, the actual construction work will begin, and it must be completed in 2015,” the mayor added. He also congratulated the authors of the ten winning LBO projects and expressed his sincere thanks to everyone involved in this major undertaking.
