Deep excavations are being carried out there for the reconstruction of underground utilities, so that a new road surface can later be laid and the facilities of the interchange hub can be built.

“Any deadline for such construction work may be subject to criticism,” say employees of the Miejski Zarząd Dróg i Mostów. “But we need this week so that the contractor can carry out the work that is absolutely necessary and cannot be performed while vehicles are moving. The excavations are too deep, and under the weight of cars the ground could have collapsed despite all safeguards.”

They add: “On the other hand, this sequence of works must be completed before winter to enable subsequent work that can be carried out at lower temperatures. We scheduled this work for this period so that the street could be reopened before All Souls’ Day, when increased passenger traffic can be expected, with people arriving in Jelenia Góra on long-distance trains.”
