The harassment took place from November last year until May 24 this year. Edward Ł. repeatedly visited three female employees at a store belonging to a retail chain. During his visits, he insulted them and threatened to kill, burn, and even rape them. He appeared to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Two of the women harassed by Ł. quit their jobs because of him.

On May 23, he threatened to kill the store’s shop assistant and threw stones at him. The next day, he came back, stealing 24 cans of beer worth PLN 81. The store employee told the thief that he had notified the police. Ł. then again threatened to kill him, pulled out a knife, held it to his neck, and drew the blade across the inside of his wrist. He then left the beer and fled. The injured man suffered head and spinal injuries.

After the incident, Ł. was detained and remanded in custody. It turned out that he had committed a similar offense in February at a discount store in Głogów. There, together with an accomplice whose identity has not yet been established, he stole cosmetics, a socket wrench set, and a shopping basket, with a total value of PLN 745. While fleeing, he twice used tear gas against a security guard.

Ł. was charged with six offenses in total. He confessed, but denied using a knife in May this year. Experts diagnosed the defendant with dissocial personality disorder and dependence syndrome involving marijuana, amphetamine, and alcohol. However, he was found to be legally competent. He now faces up to 10 years in prison. The case will be heard by the District Court in Lubin.
