The “Water, the source of life—that is, with PWiK about water, wastewater and green energy” competition, organized continuously for five years, is popular and well-liked by children.
The children enjoy taking part in an attractive tour of the PWiK grounds, prepared by Magdalena Grundman. The deputy head of the wastewater treatment plant shows the children how the company operates. The historic, more-than-a-century-old well generates enormous interest among the children. They are fascinated by the opportunity to touch the fittings installed inside, the vibrating pipes through which water drawn from underground flows, and by the very fact of descending almost 8 metres below ground level. Watching the water-treatment processes is also great fun for the pupils.
“The children who took part in our competition are ambassadors of good practices,” Józef Król said during the awards ceremony. “It is practical education about ecology, about respecting Poland’s water resources and about how our Bolesławiec water and wastewater company operates. The children’s knowledge of ecology grows every year, and our young guests are increasingly able to surprise me with their environmental awareness and knowledge of how to care for the natural environment,” added the president of PWiK.
In the latest edition of the competition, 21 children received distinctions, including six pupils who received prizes. The winner was Seweryn Ramza from Primary School No. 4. Second place went to: Mikołaj Mankiewicz (Primary School No. 1), Pola Wiśniewska (Primary School No. 4) and Martyna Kowalska (Primary School No. 3).
