On October 21, at around 7:50 a.m., the parents of students from the School Complex in Lubin contacted the Lubin District Police Headquarters, asking officers to inspect the coach taking their children on a one-day trip to Zielona Góra.
Traffic police officers determined that, in accordance with the regulations, 15 minutes after the inspection began, the driver would be required to take a weekly rest period (he had worked six consecutive days). The company owner was informed, and the vehicle’s technical condition was then checked.
It turned out that the coach had defective braking and steering systems. Moreover, operating fluids were leaking. The irregularities noticed by the officers were confirmed during an inspection at a vehicle diagnostic station in Lubin.
The driver was prohibited from continuing the journey and was also issued a PLN 500 fine. The school administration called another transport company, which provided a roadworthy coach.
