Lieutenant Grzegorz Łężny graduated from the Tadeusz Kościuszko Higher Officers’ School of Mechanized Forces in Wrocław. He began his professional military service in 1996 in the 11th Mechanized Brigade in Żary. From 1999, he served as a mechanized platoon commander, and in 2001 he assumed the duties of company commander in a tank battalion of the 23rd Territorial Defense Brigade in Gliwice.

From 2004, he served in the 10th Armored Cavalry Brigade as a social and educational officer in the Anti-Aircraft Squadron, and later as an officer and head of the squadron’s S-1 section. On October 20, 2014, he assumed the duties of head of the Organization and Mobilization Section at the 4th Military Economic Branch in Gliwice.

Those present at the ceremonial farewell for Lieutenant Łężny in the Tradition Hall included the deputy commander of the 10th Armored Cavalry Brigade, Colonel Dariusz Nawrocki, the commander of the Anti-Aircraft Squadron, Lieutenant Colonel Robert Nikonowicz, the deputy commander and chief of staff of the squadron, Major Paweł Jankowski, soldiers from the brigade’s personnel and educational sections, and the departing officer’s closest colleagues.

The ceremony traditionally began with the brigade commander thanking the lieutenant for his many years of service to the 10th Armored Cavalry Brigade and wishing him success in taking up his new duties.

The commander of the Anti-Aircraft Squadron, Lieutenant Colonel Nikonowicz, also spoke: “It was very good working with you, and it is a pity that such experienced soldiers are leaving the squadron. I admire you all the more for such a long period of service in Świętoszów, since you have served in the 10th Brigade for seven years, commuting here all the way from Gliwice. Now, at last, you will be close to your family. That does not mean, however, that you cannot return to us someday. For now, on behalf of myself and the squadron, I thank you for your years of service in the Anti-Aircraft Squadron and wish you success in your new position.”

On behalf of the commander and his colleagues, Major Paweł Jankowski presented the officer with a commemorative gift.

The heartfelt farewell moved Lieutenant Łężny: “Thank you for coming here in such large numbers on this very special day for me. Thank you for your good leadership, for the good cooperation with the personnel and educational section, as well as for the understanding shown by my superiors and the pleasant cooperation with my colleagues from the squadron. Thank you.”

The ceremony concluded with a commemorative photograph.
