The exhibition features paintings and collages created using photographs of moulds, scums and deposits. The collages are the artist’s latest creative explorations, experimental both in form and subject matter. However, the motif of layering, overgrowth, organic growths and blurring the boundary between what is beautiful and what is repulsive is not new in Perełkiewicz’s work and is also present in the artist’s earlier canvases.
“For several years, I have been collecting moulds and various types of deposits in short photographic forms, reworking them in different ways and using them in paintings,” the artist says. “They are distinctive forms of ‘borderline’ objects and subjects which, in a very unique and natural way, shape elements of reality, almost incidentally changing its image and meaning. They bring out its multicolour quality and structures, causing our thinking about form to expand—quite simply,” he adds.
Daniel Perełkiewicz (born 1977) lives and works in Denmark. He graduated from the Institute of Art and Visual Culture in Zielona Góra. In 2003, he received his diploma from the painting studio of Professor Stanisław Kortyka. He works in a variety of painting and drawing media.
