Teachers at the Sybiraks Lower Secondary School had long used techniques and methods in their lessons intended not only to make classes more varied, but above all to engage as many students as possible. Aware of the changes that computers and the Internet are bringing to our lives, Kazimierz Janik, head of Gmina Zgorzelec, together with his deputy Piotr Machaj, decided to move with the times and use multimedia and innovative applications to enrich lessons on an unprecedented scale.
The purchase of equipment for the new computer lab, together with the eKlasa software installed on the students’ laptops, will make it possible to effectively use computer equipment and educational content as modern teaching aids. Lessons conducted with this programme will be engaging and dynamic. The built-in communicator will ensure individual online contact between the teacher and each student, as well as ongoing monitoring of their learning progress.
“We want to equip students with media literacy skills—that is, teach them not only how to use new technologies efficiently, but above all how to select, critically analyse and creatively use information,” say the authorities of Gmina Zgorzelec. “No computer can replace a teacher or contact with another person, but it can help engage students even more in lessons, spark their interest and strengthen their motivation to learn.
