Organized by the Municipal Cultural and Sports Centre in Bolesławiec with its registered office in Kruszyn, the “Letter” literary competition aims not only to save from oblivion the art of letter writing, which is disappearing in the age of the Internet, but also to develop imagination and the ability to express oneself freely through written texts.
This year’s theme is “A Letter to a Friend” – its interpretation is up to the competition participants. Both the addressee and the situations described in the text may be fictional. There are, however, two conditions: the letter must be handwritten and may not be plagiarized!
The competition is open to everyone, regardless of age or place of residence. Those wishing to participate should send one handwritten letter in legible handwriting (illegible letters will not be judged). The envelope should also contain a card with the participant’s details: first and last name, address (and, if applicable, email address), telephone number, and a declaration consenting to the publication and processing of personal data (solely for the promotional purposes of the competition).
The jury will evaluate participants’ works in three age categories: 10 to 12, 13 to 15, and 16 and over (the organizers have set no upper age limit). The authors of the most interesting works can expect prizes in kind and cash, as well as the opportunity to have their winning letters published (provided, of course, that their authors consent).
Entries should be sent by 24 October 2014 (the date of the postmark determines eligibility) to: Municipal Cultural and Sports Centre in Bolesławiec with its registered office in Kruszyn, Kruszyn, 1b Kasztanowa Street, 59-700 Bolesławiec.
All competition winners will be notified (by letter or telephone) of the date of the award ceremony.
The competition, held under the patronage of the Szczecin branch of the Association of Polish Writers, is nationwide. Members of the Association of Polish Writers will sit on the jury. Details are available on the Bolesławiec GOKiS website.
