Norbert Sarnecki talks about his exhibition:
I can explain the key principle according to which I create my original sculptures. The concept behind each one must amuse me; only then do I begin analysing the technical and formal aspects of the new work. Of course, the subsequent “dirty” part of the work is no small matter. It has already been described many times by various sculptors as an exceptionally arduous process that depletes one’s reserves of strength and health. But if a sculpture truly brings me joy, it is easier to endure the hardship of making it, quickly forgetting the physical trauma of the work.
Sarnecki is an outstanding and unconventional sculptor who has been associated with Satyrykon for many years. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Poznań. He received his diploma with distinction in the studio of Professor Wojciech Józef Petruk. From 2001 to 2009, he was an assistant in the sculpture studio of Professor Wojciech Kujawski at the Academy of Fine Arts. In 2010, he received his doctoral degree for his work “Non-monuments in the City Space”. He has received scholarships—including one from the Minister of Culture and National Heritage—and awards, and has participated in numerous exhibitions in Poland and abroad. In 2004, he won a Satyrykon award for “Escape from the Office” (the Gold Medal), and in 2010 he received the Mayor of Legnica’s Award for “Fryderyk Was Also a Great Gourmet”. He is the author of the Satyrykon 2005 and Satyrykon 2014 medals.
