The work to revitalize the tenement houses was divided into two stages. During the first, windows were replaced, chimneys were added, and new façades were installed on the rear parts of the buildings. Stairwells and basements were renovated, and the installations were replaced. During the second stage, the renovation covered the front façades, which required great precision because they are decorated with beautiful stucco work. More tenement houses in this area will be revitalized in the coming years.
To date, as part of the seven-task EU project “Renewal of Degraded Urban Areas,” 22 tenement houses have been restored in the area of H. Pobożnego and B. Chrobrego streets. New road and pavement surfaces were laid, a playground and functional courtyards were built. The renovated Villa Bolka von Richtchofena now houses the Integration and Prevention Centre.
As part of the programme, the pavement and roadway on Libana Street were also reconstructed. The total cost of the work exceeded PLN 23 million, of which EU funding covered as much as 70 percent.
