At the beginning of July this year, by decision of the state sanitary inspector of the Ministry of the Interior, the so-called holding cell at the County Police Headquarters in Bolesławiec was closed. There were many reasons, including its poor technical condition and failure to meet sanitary requirements.
Now detainees, as well as those who until July this year were taken to the Room for Detained Persons in Bolesławiec because they had drunk too much alcohol, are transported to detention facilities in Złotoryja, Lubań or Zgorzelec.
Adriana Szajwaj of the Bolesławiec police admits that this is an inconvenience because transporting detainees takes longer, but it does not mean that officers are failing to carry out their duties. However, in order to question a detainee, officers must first go and bring them back.
How much this costs taxpayers is unknown. Discussions are under way about reopening the Room for Detained Persons in Bolesławiec, but no binding decisions have been made on the matter so far.
We will return to this subject.
