The extensive training base, equipped with training devices and simulators located, among other places, at the Świętoszów OSL, enables armored troops to carry out tasks even in unfavorable conditions, for example during the summer months. The risk of fire caused by dried forest undergrowth and the adjacent training grounds means that not only firing can pose a danger, but even deploying combat vehicles to the exercise areas.
The soldiers of the 4th Company of the 1st Tank Battalion training at the center, commanded in place of the regular commander by Lieutenant Michał Wołk, conducted live-fire exercises. “The ASPT simulator is a simulator of the main armament system of the LEO 2A4. It supports crew live-fire training conducted in a virtual but highly realistic environment,” the lieutenant said. “The system makes it possible to recreate virtually any situation that may arise on a modern battlefield, and additional sudden and unpredictable events can be added.”
The aim of the training was to improve the Leopard 2A4 tank crews’ gunnery skills, maintain the skills they had already acquired, and practice cooperation in emergency situations. At the same time, the company, divided into groups, also used another training device: the Leopard tank turret simulator, AAT.
“Commanders, gunners and loaders train on the AAT and ASPT simulators. Above all, they practice effective firing in various operating modes from the LEO 2A4 tank, as well as carrying out firing tasks in conditions of limited visibility—snow, rain and night. The same applies to the drivers’ station, where the instructor checks how the soldiers cope with the malfunctions most frequently occurring during operation. The other groups study the construction, assembly and disassembly of the MG-3 machine gun and attend theoretical classes on firing from the Leopard 2A4 tank,” Lieutenant Wołk concluded.
